Impact,
the leading fitness industry training provider expands its offering
to include schools

Dubai,
14 November 2008

- Impact
British Training Solutions has announced it is introducing new health
and fitness courses specially designed to be taught by schools.
Impact is the leading provider of internationally accredited
qualifications to the UAE fitness industry and is now expanding its
offering to schools - making these courses available for the first
time in the UAE.

“Impact
is very proud to have extended our training capacity to be able to
work with school on health and fitness; there has never been a more
crucial time to do this. With recent statistics
from the UAE Ministry of Health revealing that 26 per cent of
children in the country are obese, it is time to take urgent action
and we are delighted that schools are willing to work with us to
offer these courses.” says Amanda Brewer, Founder and Managing
Director of Impact.

The
new schools’ courses are accredited
by Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ), the recognised international
standard for fitness education. For students aged 13 and above,
Impact
will be introducing the Award in Lifestyle Management, a Level One
CYQ course designed to improve knowledge of exercise, fitness,
health, nutrition and well being. For those over 16, Impact is
offering coaching qualifications at Level Two CYQ that certifies
students to become fitness instructors themselves.

To
maximize the benefits of these courses to schools, Impact has
recruited a Fitness Education specialist to join its team of
MasterTrainers. Claire Johnson comes to Impact with an impressive
record of working with young people acquired through her many years’
work in UK and USA. Claire who holds a UK university degree in Sport
with Coaching and Exercise Science, will be working with schools
across the UAE on developing health and fitness programmes both as
part of their curriculum and also for after school activities.

Impact
MasterTrainer, Jade Brewer, who has been leading a team to pilot the
CYQ courses in a school in Abu Dhabi in recent months, will be
working with Claire. Jade qualified as a CYQ Instructor aged 17 and
is therefore uniquely placed to understand the particular issues
involved in tutoring young people. Jade who has been working with
the Impact Training Team for four years, explaining the importance of
the Level One Award says, “The Lifestyle Management course
essentially gives children the right tools to tackle the effects of
bad diet and physical inactivity that characterizes much of modern
life.”

The
Award in Lifestyle Management asks teenagers to examine their own
current lifestyles and work on strategies for improvement, whilst
teaching them about basic healthy eating and recommended levels of
physical activity. The course also looks at other lifestyle factors
such as stress and self esteem, as well as other habits, such as
smoking, that impact on fitness and well being. Speaking about the
aims of the Lifestyle Management Award, Jade points out, “this is
an inclusive course, designed to be relevant to every young person’s
life and not just those who do well at sports.” says Jade. “With
this course we hope to instill healthy habits from an early age to
help halt the currently soaring rates of obesity, diabetes and heart
disease.”

For
coaching qualifications, Impact is introducing two courses that allow
students to either teach in a gym environment as a personal trainer,
or to be able to teach children’s exercise classes. Commenting on
the benefits of this course to students, Claire adds; “By
completing this course, the students gain an internationally
recognized qualification that will help gain employment in not only
the schools but one that opens up the opportunities in leisure and
tourism sectors around the world”.

Speaking
about the Level Two course, Claire explains; “this coaching
qualification is a gift of independence for a young adult, with this
in hand, they not only have a something that looks good on a CV, but
a practical skill, one that many parents will be delighted to hear,
is a safe and lucrative way to earn extra money whilst they pursue
their higher education”.
